<p>The new murals in Lincoln Park’s LaSalle Drive underpass started with two girls, a dream and a lemonade stand.</p><p>It ended up, says artist Cheri Charlton, as “this larger than life, illustrated storybook that you walk through,” featuring flora and fauna found in and around Chicago.</p><p>Titled “Day into Night: Lincoln Park's Living Canvas,” the two 100-foot murals stretch through the tunnel connecting to the North Avenue Beach. On the south side, the mural is a detailed, summer day illustration of wildlife at Lincoln Park. Squirrels, robins, monarch butterflies, a cardinal, pelican and more all seem to be carrying on, blissfully unaware that their lives are captured in paint.</p><div class="Enhancement" data-align-center> <div class="Enhancement-item" data-crop=""> <figure class="Figure"><a class="AnchorLink" id="image-fb0000" name="image-fb0000"></a> <picture data-crop="medium"> <source type="image/webp" width="490" height="275" data-srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/7e3ee2c/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/490x275!/format/webp/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg 1x,https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/5058bfa/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/980x550!/format/webp/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg 2x" data-lazy-load="true" srcset="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" /> <source width="490" height="275" data-srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/85d9ea3/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg" data-lazy-load="true" srcset="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" /> <img class="Image" alt="Cheri Lee Charlton stands in front of the mural she painted" srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/85d9ea3/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg 1x,https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/6da8f81/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/980x550!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg 2x" width="490" height="275" data-src="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/85d9ea3/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1402x787+0+96/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fdd%2Fb1%2F61cf608f4a9791e00804a06656c4%2Fmurals-lincolnpark-260607-19.jpg" data-lazy-load="true" src="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" > </picture> <div class="Figure-content"><figcaption class="Figure-caption"><p>Artist Cheri Lee Charlton stands in front of the “Day Into Night” mural she painted.</p></figcaption><span class="line"></span><div class="Figure-credit"><p>Provided by Tim Seed</p></div></div> </figure> </div> </div><p>The north side features a nocturnal scene, with one owl spreading its wings in front of a backdrop of <a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/lincoln-park" >Lincoln Park</a> row houses, while another owl turns its head to watch.
