FRAGRANCE OF IDEAS Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently on a very successful four-day visit to two Central Asian nations, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Besides attending the usual official ceremonies, bilateral meetings and other important engagements in the two countries, PM Modi also attended the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The Summit was also attended by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin and the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, besides the other heads of government that were invited to the Summit.

But still, it’s hard to hear.</p><p>Especially since we love Canadians, and we very much want them to love us back.</p><p>But after spending years threatening to invade Canada and make it the “51st state,” and mocking its leaders with petty nicknames and schoolyard insults, Trump may have finally put Canadians’ famous politeness to the test.</p><p>“You’re at war when you’re attacked, and we got attacked,” <a class="Link" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2026/08/24/trumps-trade-war-with-canada-has-carney-facing-his-biggest-test-yet/" target="_blank" >said</a> Prime Minister Mark Carney.
