Pakistan’s passport ranking has slipped by one position to the 101st spot globally and remains the fourth worst in the world, according to the Henley Passport Index, it emerged on Tuesday. The Henley Passport Index compares 199 different passports across 227 different travel destinations, and calculates the score based on the number of destinations that can be accessed without a prior visa, or with a visa on arrival. With visa-free access declining from 30 countries in May to 29 countries in July, the Pakistani passport’s rank slipped by one rank to 101st.
<p>Temporary protected status ended Monday for more than 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians, leaving them vulnerable to being deported to the countries they fled — countries still coping with violence and instability.</p><p>In June, the Supreme Court allowed the administration of President Donald Trump to end the 36-year-old Temporary Protected Status program for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian migrants.</p><p>“People are feeling like this country has let them down too,” said Patrick Brutus, vice president and co-founder of the Haitian American Professional Network. “They’ve had to watch their country tumble into destabilization from afar, and now families may have to face leaving their children behind or taking children to a dangerous place they’ve never been.”</p><p>In a statement, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said TPS had been used as a "de facto amnesty program" for "too long."</p><p>It was created by Congress in 1990 to prevent deportations to countries suffering from natural disasters or civil strife. The protections are available only to people who have been continuously present in the U.S.
Haitian authorities announced Monday evening presidential and legislative elections with the first round to be held on December 13, 2026 and the second on February 21, 2027. This schedule depends, however, on "the establishment of an acceptable security climate."

Wang said birthright citizenship gave him opportunities his friends without legal status did not have, like going to college at the University of Illinois.</p><p>“I got a scholarship to go,” he said.</p><p>In <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/read-the-supreme-courts-opinion-on-birthright-citizenship-0000019f190fd9d2a19f5b9f9f2e0000" target="_blank" >the 6-3 ruling</a>, justices relied on a long-settled understanding of <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/800b0a2005254ec58369b9564f53be8f" target="_blank" ><u>the 14th Amendment</u></a>, adopted after the Civil War, and more recent federal laws in ruling that anyone born in the country, with very limited exceptions, is a citizen.</p><p>The Republican president's restrictions were spelled out in an executive order he signed last year on the first day of his second term.
