View all signals →The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers announced that on Monday it will award the Golden Pen for Press Freedom to photographers and video journalists from three major news agencies (France Press, Associated Press, and Reuters) working in Gaza to document the war while risking their lives. The award will be presented in the coastal city of Marseille in southern France to representatives of the three news agencies, including photographer Mohammad Abed who worked in Gaza with France Press until April 2024 before joining the agency's Cairo office. The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers stated that over more than two and a half years, journalists in Gaza have witnessed death, destruction, and human suffering on an unprecedented scale.
