The Transylvanian Highlands will host this August more than 20 events taking place in villages, fortified churches, traditional homesteads, medieval fortresses and cultural venues across the counties of Sibiu, Brașov and Mureș. Local cuisine, Saxon heritage, music, film, contemporary art and cycling routes are among the options for visitors in the area between Sibiu, Mediaș, Sighișoara, Rupea, and Făgăraș. Local gastronomy and flower festivals Hoghilag – The Land of Tuberoses , the event celebrating the tuberose, the flower that has become the village's symbol, is held over two weekends, on August 1-2 and August 8-9.

The eighth edition of SoNoRo Musikland will take place from July 17 to July 27 in Sibiu, Avrig, Porumbacu de Sus, Copșa Mare, Sighișoara, Meșendorf, Criț, Viscri, and Poiana Brașov. This year's festival will feature 11 days of programming and 14 events, including nine concerts and five jam sessions held in venues showcasing the region's architectural and cultural heritage. The opening concert , Con Spirito , will take place on July 17 in the ceremonial hall of the ASTRA Sibiu County Library, the first public library of Romanians in Transylvania.

Novarion DMX Construction, a Sibiu-based company with over 11 years of experience in construction and general contracting and a portfolio of 150,000 square meters built, announced the launch of its public share offering in preparation for its admission to trading on the AeRO market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.  The public offering will take place between July 3 and July 9, 2026, and will consist of up to 1 million newly issued shares, with a nominal value of RON 1 per share and a subscription price of RON 17 per share.  During the first three days of the offering, investors will benefit from a 6% discount on the standard subscription price, resulting in a subscription price of RON 15.98 per share. The minimum subscription ticket is 100 shares, worth roughly RON 1,600 with the discount. The maximum value of the offering is RON 17 million.  The company intends to use the proceeds from the offering to support its next stage of development, primarily by financing the working capital required to expand its project portfolio, strengthen its financial position, and increase its capacity to undertake larger-scale projects, according to the press release. The intermediary of the IPO is TradeVille, while VERTIK served as investor relations adviser.

Clothing retailer Primark is set to open a store in Sibiu next month, inside Shopping City Sibiu. The unit, spanning 2,300 sqm on a single floor, is the retailer’s sixth store in the country. The company already has stores in Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, and Craiova, and further openings are planned in Iași and Bacău by the end of 2026.  A third Bucharest store is also scheduled to open in the commercial center Sun Plaza during the 2026-2027 financial year, the company said.

The Făgăraş Fest Festival will take place between July 10 and 12, in Sebeşu de Sus, Racoviţa commune, near Sibiu, central Romania, and will include guided tours, outdoor cinema, concerts, and local gastronomic experiences, according to the organizers.   The event is dedicated to those passionate about nature, local communities, specialists, and artists. The location is at the foothills of the Făgăraş Mountains, in a beautiful natural setting.  The festival was created through the initiative of the Conservation Carpathia Foundation and ProPark – Foundation for Protected Areas. “From the very beginning, we set out to highlight the beauty of nature in the Făgăraş Mountains and the importance of protecting wild forests.

Darryl Nirenberg, the US ambassador to Bucharest, highlighted Romanians’ favorable opinion of president Donald Trump during a visit to Sibiu last week. In an interview with local publication Turnul Sfatului , the ambassador said that he had not met any Romanian disappointed with the American president.  “What I have noticed is how favorably Romanians view the United States. My wife, Lori, and I had almost a year to prepare before coming to Romania.

Romania's Haferland Week Festival will run August 6–9 across ten Transylvanian villages, celebrating Saxon culture with concerts, theater, craft workshops, and guided tours of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The event, under the patronage of Romanian Senate President Mircea Abrudean and former Olympic champion Nadia Comăneci, aims to preserve local traditions and promote cultural tourism in the region.

A 5-year-old boy named Alex who disappeared from his father's side was found in a forest in Romania. He is now hospitalized at Sibiu Pediatric Hospital with stable condition, according to senior physician Ioana Mătăcuță Bogdan.

Mountain rescue teams found 5-year-old Alex after he went missing, providing him with food and warm clothing before transporting him to Sibiu Pediatric Hospital. The child is in good health and has been admitted for observation.
